Media Coverage!

Since returning home to Astoria, Oregon, I have enjoyed quite a bit of media coverage of my Clipper Race adventure. Below are a variety of links to videos, audio/podcasts, TV news interviews and more.

I will admit, there are times where it is difficult to remain humble. When folks clamor to tell your story because they realize how epic it is, it is quite the emotional boost. There are pinch me moments when someone says “I saw you on the news.” or “I heard you on the radio yesterday.” I’ve become a local celebrity of sorts for those that tune into our community radio station (KMUN), read our local newspaper (The Astorian), or watch Portland’s KGW News (NBC). It’s been a fun couple of months telling my Clipper story. My ego is in check, but a smile definitely appears when those mini celebrity moments happen. They help me feel proud of my accomplishment.

John Windus of Astoria’s KRKZ-FM interviews me in Seattle during my stopover.

As the media interviews slow up, I’m now booking a few speaking engagements! It is an exciting time as I explore how to share my adventure with a variety of in-person audiences. For instance, I’m slated to speak to a local Girl Scouts troop of elementary school-aged kiddos. That talk is definitely going to differ in content (and length!) from a formal engagement at our local maritime museum. I am very excited to share detailed sailing nuances and race experiences with my local yacht club members at our annual travelogue series in March 2027.

I am considering a pathway towards paid, professional speaking. . . whether it be motivational speaking, coaching team building, or something in between. I think it would be amazing to be able to inspire others, especially girls and young women, to do something bold and life-changing.

KMUN Community Radio Programming: The Ship Report

The Ship Report is a daily morning show on KMUN (from 8:48am-8:58am Mon-Thurs) hosted by Joanne Rideout. She reports on all things maritime in our region, and particularly the daily comings and goings of the shipping traffic. She’s a bit of a local legend and it was quite an honor to be interviewed by her! We had an amazing 2-hour interview which she broke down into multiple parts for her short-format show.

By an amazing coincidence of fate. . . Joanne highlighted S/V Maiden and its skipper, Heather Thomas, in a 2024 podcast when Heather won the 2023-2024 Ocean Globe Race with an all female team of sailors! That same Heather Thomas was my skipper on Team Scotland! Click Here to Listen

KMUN Community Radio Programming: The Human Beat

The Human Beat airs once per month and is hosted by Roger Rocka, a great radio voice. His show is long-form (about 30 minutes) and focuses on unique stories in our community and the people behind them! I loved interviewing with Roger – he took a his time to study the race and asked me great questions!

Clipper Race Media: 2025-2026 Circumnavigators Videos on YouTube

Two professionally produced pieces by the Clipper Race (by 16 Degrees South). Unbeknownst to me, I became the bookend figure in the first video! I watch these when I’m feeling a bit down or lost to remind myself of my achievement. . . and that it’s okay to feel a bit lost now that the race is finished.

Part 2: Filmed after finishing the race in Portsmouth, England

I was interviewed by The Astorian and John Windus, DJ for KRKZ-FM in Astoria was present and filmed a portion of the interview. (I sure did need a haircut!)

Podcast: Women of the Northwest

Hosted by Jan Johnson. Women of the Northwest focuses on “Ordinary women leading extraordinary lives. Interviews with interesting women. Motivating. Inspiring. Compelling.” It is a long-format show (approx. 38 minutes).

I’ve also enjoyed some still images of me being used in Clipper’s social media feeds (FB, IG, etc.)
